THIS SITE IS MOVING TO ANOTHER LOCATION:

This site has moved to another blog called, ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY. There will me no further posts to this site. The new site will continue so show my regular shooting progress, but will also contain other topics on photography, such as hands-on equipment and software reviews, historical information on photography, and much more.

When it was set up, the DAILY STOCK SHOT PROJECT was supposed to be a one year project. Last year I extended the project another year due to the popularity of the site, but now it is time to move on.

If you wish to continue following, please visit my new blog at ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY and save it as a new link.

We had this cat in the studio for a shoot situation we were doing of a veterinarian.  During a break I did some closeups of just the cat.

  1. I like the concept of your blog to shoot authentic and original photos without any set up. obviously I think a big reason why photo buyers look at places like flickr is because the photos on there dont seem set up and the true/authentic community feel of the site.

in general, how does this project fall along the lines of your "shoot with an RM attitude" position which you blogged about here. seems slightly contradictory but i like both ideas a lot.

Also when do you plan to post some of your results?

  2. Thanks for your comment. The thing to keep in mind about this project is that it is intended to produce images that are out of the mainstream of my normal workflow. In other words, none of these images would have otherwise been produced except for this project. As it is developing, I am obtaining three to four extra shots a day from this project out of the additional variations I do of each situation.

It is much too early to publish any sales results. Most of these images haven't even made it into the marketplace. I usually estimate that it will take at least six months before any sales data will begin to come back, and it can take a year before any of that data begins to be meaningful.

The thing to keep in mind here is that these shots were produced very economically, that they are intended to garner extra revenue I would not have realized otherwise, and that all this is being done by coming up with one good conceptual stock thought a day. Simplicity and speed, not complexity, is the name of the game here.
