THIS SITE IS MOVING TO ANOTHER LOCATION:

This site has moved to another blog called, ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY. There will me no further posts to this site. The new site will continue so show my regular shooting progress, but will also contain other topics on photography, such as hands-on equipment and software reviews, historical information on photography, and much more.

When it was set up, the DAILY STOCK SHOT PROJECT was supposed to be a one year project. Last year I extended the project another year due to the popularity of the site, but now it is time to move on.

If you wish to continue following, please visit my new blog at ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY and save it as a new link.

This is one image assembled in Photoshop from fourteen shots of family situations.

I picked up a fiber optic lamp today and adapted it to accept the light from a Nikon SB-900 flash unit.  These are a few of the photos I did with the Nikon D800.

This composite of sun and sky shots was assembled into one using Photoshop.

I did another variation on the lit-fuse shot featured as a blog shot a few days ago.  By using a red background instead of the black, I felt the treatment was less ominous.  I also added the hand with a match for an alternate concept.

Binary digits and a map of the world against a background blur of a blue light.  The entire image was assembled in Photoshop.

Monday, July 23, 2012

I assembled this image from photos of individual models I took when they were in the studio for a shoot.  The background map is from a drawing I did and scanned into Photoshop.

An important use of an early timepiece was for navigation.  To illustrate that concept I combined the inner workings of an old pocket watch with a navigation chart.

One nice thing about thunderstorm season is that you often have dramatic sunsets after clearing storms.  This composite of two images was combined into a panorama using Photoshop.  Taken with the Nikon D800 and 24-120mm lens.

A fake bomb created in the studio.  A single tungsten light was placed behind and to the right, and supplemented by fill reflector from the left.  Tungsten was used to give the shot a warm glow in keeping with the light from the fuse.  The fuse flame is from a sparkler held in place.  The stem of the sparkler was later removed in Photoshop.  Taken with a Nikon D4 and 105mm macro lens.

Believe it or not, this delicate waterfall was photographed in the North Woods -- of New York's Central Park.  To blur the water flow I used a variable neutral density filter on my Nikon D800.  The exposure was 4 seconds at f/11 with a 24mm focal length.

To create this high key background shot of oak I over-exposed by three stops with a Nikon D800 and 200mm focal length at f/2.8.

This photo of organic produce is one composite made up of sixteen images.

I manipulated these cloud scenes in Photoshop so they could serve better as backgrounds for designer projects.  The neutral white areas lend themselves to be used for copy space.

This background photo of barbed wire on top of a fence was photographed into the sun with the Nikon D800 and 70-300mm Nikon zoom.

For a brief period at the beginning of the summer sunlight hits the northern facing sides of buildings in Manhattan.  I took this series of images from a view looking south to take advantage of this phenomenon.  The photo above is a panorama composed of three images taken with the Nikon D800 and stitched together in Photoshop.

Here is the same image as the one above but with an infrared black-and-white treatment.

This closeup taken with the Nikon 70-200mm lens shows the Empire State Building juxtaposed against the new Word Trade buildings under construction in the distance.

I found this patriotic flag displayed on the fender of a trunk in New York.

Fourth of July

The 4th of July is a major summer celebration in the U.S.  This year the actual holiday falls in the middle of the week.  When that happens the celebration is extended to the weekend and lasts for most of the week.  So for the rest of the week I will be posting stock images relating to this holiday theme.

An old, worn flag photographed by window light with the Nikon D800 and 60mm macro lens.
